GenX Women

I have been laid off since 10/15/2024.

My specialty is in HR and I have applied to numerous positions and companies are finally reaching out to me, just before the holidays for interviews. Is this a good thing? In my experience I thought that hiring would slow down going into the next year.

They say most companies are hiring over holidays to apply now. Keep the faith everyone.

Yes, it’s absolutely a great thing. I’m in higher ed and connected with a lot of folks in HR. People are moving to new jobs and different companies. There is shift going on making their jobs open! This is exciting for you !! Keep us posted on the rest of the process!

Taking advantage of candidates now is a great strategy. Often the holidays slow down once in process. Probably planning for after the holidays to hire, industry and need dependent. Losing candidates due to taking too long to reach out is a real thing.

Employers hire when they need employees. It could be that no decisions will be made till January—depending on their own urgency and decision-maker’s vacations. Good luck!

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
