Desired Career changer
Hello. I am a sales professional that has spent over 15 yrs in Advertising Sales , got laid off last yr and have been interested in pivoting my career into nonprofit. I have been fortunate to have informational interviews (in person and over the phone) this yr with nonprofit /fundraising/ development professionals as well as volunteer at a local nonprofit up to this month. Now everything has stopped. I don't think it is the right time to reach out to grow my network -1. how can I continue to grow my network and speak to more professionals in this space 2. How do I navigate my career change at this time? thank you.
I live in NJ area.
Working in the nonprofit sector is how I managed to find employment during the last recession. With 15 years of proven sales experience, there are many nonprofits that would benefit from your skills. Now more than ever, they need to fight for a shrinking pool of donations. Target those nonprofits and make sure your resume is geared towards nonprofits, using the correct keywords.
Two other pieces of advice: If you can afford to donate some of your time to a nonprofit, do that now. It will support your resume. And, if you haven't already, go to idealist.org for job listings.
Good luck!
Hi Anne
I was fortunate to volunteer earlier this year at a nonprofit and added it to my resume . Now, with the corona virus understandingly everything has stopped. Per another suggestion, I did reach out to foundations in schools and other organizations, but no one is getting back to me currently. I am wondering when is a good time to reach back out to set up more informational interviews, b/c even volunteering is not an option with stay at home orders. There is NO new job postings I just want to keep communication as open as possible. Thank you
