Hello! I'm 44, also child free. I've got 2 cats, 1 dog. I'm curious, what's your plan for post retirement care if you can't manage? It's something I worry about.

Hi welcome :) grad student, what are you studying ? If I could be a professional student all my life I would. I say that if I ever won the lottery I would be a student for life.

Hello, ladies! Also recent 43-year-old Gen-Xer who's child-free, husband-free, pet-free (not by choice as I LOVE dogs), and loving the freedom! Also job-free, which I HATE. I've always been a career-centric woman so this is killing me. There are many times when being this free has made me feel out of place, but I do what I can to relate to married women with children, as I am a loving aunt who loves my young adult and teenage niece and nephew. One thing I have and always try to do is be supportive of working mothers by making their jobs easier without trying to use that to my advantage for promotion opportunities. I've seen this in recent years, and needless to say, it's horrible morale. My mother was a working woman raising three children and excelled in her work, and while I did not make the same choices she did, she's the impetus to the respect and support I try to extend to women who are trying to progress their careers after maternity leave and beyond when balancing so many priorities.

YES ! I was raised by a single mother and she is everything to me and lucky she is a healthy 84. I get that and I am amazed with moms that work outside the home and are rock stars when them get home. My kids would have cereal every night if I were a working mom.

It's basically Atmospheric Science and Climate Change. I love it, but trying to squeeze it around a full-time job is tough (i.e., student loans). The job I don't love at the moment, but the field is still promising. With the degree, I'm free to move on! One of the perks of being child-free. Thanks for asking. Hope life is treating you very well!

42 here and no kids (not truly by choice). I am blessed with 4 godchildren and 1 very spoiled cat. I was in a long-term relationship at one point and he had two children, so I have experience raising teenagers! I wanted to join in this conversation since I feel "not normal" at times since I don't have kids, so it's great to hear from others who are also child-free!

50 and kid free! I'm a happy aunt to some awesome young adults, and I'm happy with that. I love the freedom I have and my ability to use my income solely as I want to, not as I have to!

Hi. I, too, am without children. My husband and I had infertility issues, otherwise we would have kids. I am fur mom to 5 bratty cats. ? Fortunately, in my previous job I had a boss in the same boat. It's also where I met my bestie, who is also sans children due to similar circumstances. It was a struggle dealing with it at first. Then menopause hit and I got to deal with it all over again. I'm finally accepting it. I'm totally behind people who opt out of having kids. It's better to know who you are and what you want.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
