Shot records for a job
After job hunting for a year, I finally got a long term temp job with a hospital. The job isn't in the hospital, but it's in an office in a separate building. However, they've asked for shot records. I don't know about anyone else, i haven't had a shot since I was 18 years old (1986). I'm sure at the time I had all of my shots when I went to college. Any suggestions?
I second on the re-up. I Left the country a couple years ago to do some traveling, but before I did, I had my doctor check me for how effective my old immunizations were. Most of them were barely effective. I was 45 at the time. So I had a huge round of regular immunizations, Plus hepatitis A and B, before I left.
I did a blood test, and antibodies from my MMR shot on the 70's were present and in acceptable ranges. I'll probably need a hepB because I don't think that is a shot that was required when I was growing up
Having worked previously in healthcare, the risk of transmitting ailments to hospital patients - even if you don't work in the hospital or deliver patient care - is significant. They are erring on the side of caution for the patients.
Usually hospitals have infection control or employee health departments that can provide the required immunizations.
You may just need to get a whole new set of shots anyway if the last time was college entrance. A lot of vaccinations need a reup every 10-20 years.
The only issue is health insurance to cover all these vaccinations, because they usually cost adults a lot. You may need to ask the hospital if they have a package for vaccination renewals that is inexpensive/free for their workers.
Contact your high school, or your pediatrician (yours not your children’s lol) they usually still have them on file.
I work in the medical industry, it took a lot of searching for mine as well.
That is interesting. I know I need a booster (Tdap), but no doctor has ever told me I needed to update my shots. Even with the measles epidemic, the doctor said I didn't need to update. Glad I have an appt. this week. I'm definitely going to bring this up
Sometimes they need to take a titre to confirm if the vaccination is still working - or if they ever took at all!. For example, I had a blood panel done for my first pregnancy (<30) and it showed that I had no chickenpox antibodies, even though my record had the chickenpox vaccination noted.
