Hello fellow Xers!
I am a 44-year-old in the middle of awakening and trying to decide what brings me passion that I can also monetize. Not an easy feat! After much searching, I've finally realized I'm going to have to create it myself...
Anyone have any advice on how to start a non profit for homeless women that teaches them the skill of recycled crafting that they could then sell on our website and etsy to give them needed confidence and funds for housing? Any and all advice on any aspect of the above will be greatly appreciated!
Is there an arts organization in your area and/or women's chamber of commerce that you could connect with others to find out the best way to go about implementing your idea? You may be doing this, but offering workshops at women's shelters or kitchens that provide meals, etc. to build momentum and partnerships.
Kudos on such a great idea! My first move would be to contact your local social services agency to let them know your plan, so they can direct you toward your future clientele. There is probably already a structure in place that you'll need to join to provide services to the homeless; this is great, as it will prevent you from having to reinvent the wheel. May you find helpful people and resources along your way. Best of luck to you and this new endeavor!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I was homeless myself almost 2 years ago now, so I know that there isn't much in place at this time. I'm just hoping that city council won't make it difficult, you would be amazed at how little people in power want to assist the homeless demographic. Shoot, sorry...want to stay Positive, because I know if I can pull this off I will be able to make a real difference for my community! Appreciate the positive vibes!!!
Wow! Have you reached out to local organizations in your community that help homeless women?
In the process. Thank you for the direction, i appreciate it!
See if there are organizations in your area that help startups. If you msg me, I can help you look and offer some info myself, part of what I do is prepare ppl to start companies. ?
That would be Amazing! I can honestly use all the help I can get, since this will be a fully brand new adventure I'll be tackling...I was homeless myself for 4 years in this city, and have been actively advocating for the lot of us since. Hopefully I'll come up against less resistance from the city/county now that I'm not "part of the problem"(A phrase used by a former city council woman!)
