GenX Women

New to group and so happy to find!!

Thank you for this group! Good to know you're not alone. I have recently stumbled upon employer's who in the Hospitality industry, tend to discriminate due to age. I wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.

Ladies - it is so ridiculous that ageism starts at 40 which is why it's so important to be able to clearly, succinctly and specifically share your brand story and how you can make an impact on an organization. While Gen X is the work horse generation, it is also the blend generation and we've been ok sitting in the back plugging away. Be bold and make them fear not hiring you! I was startled last year when I was applying to jobs and a recruiter mentioned that I was going to have a hard time because I was 45 and most companies think of that as a senior citizen!!!! I think it's important for GenX to take leadership roles and educate those younger than us on how and why our experience matters and that we are adaptable and not old fashioned.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
