Retention Bonus
My company is about to be acquired and I expect that I will be the CFO. I am going to ask for a retention bonus to stay one year, but have no idea what percentage of my annual salary I should request. Does anybody have experience with this that they are willing to share?
Hello, new to the group here - do you envision having an ongoing role with the new company or do you want to just secure compensation for the year during the transition?
I anticipate staying on with the new ownership, but I know there will be extra work and am looking for compensation.
I have been part of a few companies (tech startups) that have been acquired. At that point in time, I was not in the C-Suite but I was considered senior management and I was part of the acquisition team so I was privy to the ranges that others on the team where using to negotiate.
Here are the figures that we used (% of annual salary for staff critical to the long-term success of the new company)
- Executives: 45-75%
- Senior Management: 30 - 55%
- Employees critical for integration: 20 - 45%
