Could COVID-19 open up opportunity for GenX

With all the changes brought by the pandemic, could GenX be the subtle winner? As workers re-evaluate their careers, commutes, lifestyles and corporate culture, it may open up opportunities for the rising stars of mid-career, the GenXers. Boomers have long held the corner offices and had no plans to retire but with the world turned on it's ear, some of those Boomers are realizing they don't have to continue in the rat race, others are being forced out by health issues. GenX has always had the benefit of being adaptable, we learned to use computers in school and work, we adapted to single parent households and we balanced the gender roles better than any generation before us. Could this finally be the big break we need to take control and bring our vision and style to the world? We are a generation that practices parental equality, we embrace gender differences because at the end of the day, we don't care how you identify, just get the job done. Our male members do not seem as hung up on reporting to a female or having a partner who makes more than them and the women in our group thrive on multitasking while balancing it all. Thoughts?

My husband and I were discussing this recently. We believe due to exactly what you stated above that our generation has a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to seeing what we come forward with.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
