Thinking that today is a GREAT day to announce how wonderful life is to be a Gen Xer!
We literally have the benefit of growing up without tech, but WITH tech. If the world ends tomorrow, I've watched enough Twilight Zone episodes to know how to survive, and pick out the inconsistencies in people, scenes and places. I'm also tech savvy enough where I rule the device and not the other way around. I don't fret when my smart phone (which isn't so smart if it knows I left it) is left at home - and I won't likely turn around to retrieve it unless traveling further than 1 hour.
Oh, the gratitude I have. Just figured I'd share. Please share how being a Gen Xer makes you feel.
I hate when articles about the workforce don't include us. We've seen the work world change dramatically - from the time when our moms had certain jobs and dads had others and never the two shall meet to women as CEOs and Vice-Presidents. I think our generation has been the generation to elevate women in the workplace and the world. Don't just skip over us because we're smaller than the other two generations! We're here, willing and able to run the show! Go GenX! And, GRLPWR!
(On the downside: being a GenX woman includes hot flashes. I'm having my own hot girl summer and not in a good way.)
Lots of articles about lots of things don't include us. It's almost laughable how often Gen X is just completely erased from the scene.
I am currently a full-time college student at Smith. You know what the hip decade is for these kids? The nineties lol... THE NINETIES!!!
And they still forget about us. My god, we gave them Lauryn Hill.
Yes to all the above! What I love about being a Gen Xer is having the emotional detachment from situations to remain calm while Boomers and Millenials are freaking out all around me. Being in the "middle" means I've seen it all, and more than likely I still have the non-tech problem-solving skills to find my way out of it. Thanks for celebrating the Xers today!!
We're problem solvers because we had to be!
As a Gen Xer, I thoroughly enjoy the confidence that has come with my 50's, both personally and professionally.
I started my working life with paper, typewriters and adding machines and learned to use computers and the web from the ground up.
I think this gives me a resiliancy that other generations may not have since I'm not intimidated by new tech and not devasted when I have to work "old-school".
Thank you!! I am so grateful to be Gen X! My brother and I spent the weekend with our cousins and we reminisced about summers playing outside and silly games and roaming free for hours.
And we are the generation who built the Internet (along with some Baby Boomers who built the early WWW) :)
Agreed. Connecting and disconnecting is a clear perk so we can enjoy the moment.
I was just discussing this with my partner. We had the opportunity to witness the best of both worlds. We have experienced the advantages and disadvantages of both existing with and without technology. The amazing feeling of using it when necessary but also fully disconnecting.
Absolutely! And knowing WHEN to disconnect before self sabotage or negativity cross in. I know lots of us who know when to unplug and detox from tech also.
