Trying to find my place in this world
Hello all - newbie here! And I am on the search to find my almost perfect (well, at least tolerable) place I want to spend most of my day. I worked for a company for 18 years (5 of which I telecommuted 100%) and was laid off. That was 5 years ago. I have had 4 jobs since then, and am just not happy. Job 1) Owners wife belittled everyone and in front of customers too. Job 2) Boss had absolutely no trust in their employees and most of day was spent with no work to do. Job 3) Most of day was spent with no work. When I applied for a different position, I was told no because I had only little experience, however when I was interviewed, I was told when there was an opening I could move even though I didn't have a lot of direct experience. They then hired someone with no experience at all. Job 4) 3 owners of small company. Told repeatedly to ask questions if we don't understand. The one time I asked a clarifying question of something we were being told, I was snapped at "you just don't get it" with an eye roll. Most days I sit with nothing to do.
Looking for just some encouragement .... as I am starting to feel like I won't find my place - I know I won't find anything like I had for 18 years, but is respect, appreciation, and sometimes a little praise too much to ask for? I have an interview later today (2nd actually - first was over the phone) and one on Friday. I am willing to take less than I make now as long as my days can have at least a little enjoyment in them. The only thing this current job has going for it is I can dress casual!
New to the group here. I can definitely appreciate how it feels to be valued with a company for a long period of time and then find yourself "starting over". How was your interview?
It was not good - I stood in the lobby for 5 minutes - there was no one there, and no where to sit, so I just stood there feeling like a fool. When someone finally walked in and then told someone I was there, a female voice said (yeah, well she's early so...). I was ready to walk out and skip the interview altogether. All I could think about was she just talked to another employee like this about an interviewee?? Keep in mind, I walked in 10 minutes early (most bosses want an employee to show up early, not late). After another 5 minutes, she walked out and introduced herself as the owner! I did fine in the interview, but I could never work for someone that talks to others like that.
