Sample language for a request to help find a job on linked in?

I understand I need to send messages to my contacts to let them know I am looking for a new job, but what do I say? I see advice to make a request but not directly ask for a job. Does anyone have actual text you find helpful for this?

There is now a "Looking for Work" icon you can put on your LinkedIn page so that people can see you are on the job hunt

Simply say that you've recently left your job and you're looking for X. I know you're well-connected and I would appreciate any help you may be able to provide. As we know, 70% of jobs come from networking. Please let me know how I can help you too!

You could start off with a post to LinkedIn generally announcing you're looking for a new opportunity and requesting information or feedback on new opportunities. I'm like you in this sense of being uncomfortable using connections for resources, ESPECIALLY if we've not spoken in a while. When I see those posts from my contacts, regardless of how long we've spoken, I will forward anything useful to them or message them if I think I have something that might interest them. This way they can seek you out without feeling like you're pinning them down. Just a thought.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
