Trying to grow career into security

Hello, I currently work as a security administrator in access management , I am tying to grow my career in the direction of security analyst/ soc analyst, I have a degree in networking. I am a non traditional career transitioner I came from retail management , I work for a boss that really only sees me as someone who can just take care of tickets and the day to day, I asked for training in splunk, cyber ark , I asked for projects I volunteered for everything , I would get a project almost completed it would’ve given to the younger guys , he would “ forget” he gave that project to me, I have tried everything to show my boss I am capable of so much more Going on 4 years now , I completed my projects I was allowed on time i have great relationships across the company, however it is plain to me I am not going to be allowed to get anywhere I asked for training he gave it to the guys , And when I give my opinion he yells at me if I “ feel heard” I realize I have to leave this company , it’s extremely clicky and toxic I am taking classes on cybrary for some hands on familiarization for some of these tools, and I keep hearing how companies are willing to do some training etc, however I have not seen this at all, my question, does taking classes like cybrary actually help? As an older woman should I just give up and try something else like HR? I am at a crossroads I’m tired of fighting a fight I’m not sure I can win, I thought I could but now I’m now I’m just .... I am a quick learner and I am willing to go the extra mile but.. am I fighting a losing battle as an older woman in IT? Or is there hope? Would just like to hear some thoughts on this Thank you Violette

Thank JoelleGiddens, I really appreciate your advice and the company to look at , it can be very difficult sometimes when you are standing in the forest staring at the tree , I was at a crossroads of Sorts and after some soul searching and your reply I realized I really do want this and I think I can , it helps to hear those words from someone else , thanks again ?

Hi Violette, Definitely stick to your dreams and goals. Check out CyberSN and see if there is a role that interests you. I found this company while searching for cyber jobs for a connection. It sounds like you may just need to change companies to one where your initiative is valued and rewarded. The security field is huge and I am sure there will be an opportunity for you.
