As a member of the winemaking team this person will assist in managing juice and wine storage, prepping wines for bottling, and maintaining the overall health of wines. Other responsibilities will include support for tastings, coordination and management of technical trials, and general cleanliness of the lab and all lab equipment including glassware and sample bottles. The Enologist reports to the Winemaker and will work closely with the winemaking team to develop and implement winemaking protocols, SOPs and contribute to the continuous improvement of wine quality. This position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
Responsibilities
Perform accurate routine and advanced chemical and physical analysis on wines and juices.
Prepare reagents and standard solutions.
Assist the research and development department by providing analysis as needed.
Sample tanks and barrels for analyses
Calibrate all laboratory equipment
Run control checks on equipment to ensure it is working properly
Performs typical lab analyses with accuracy, precision, and timeliness in accordance with SOPs
Ensure wines meet all quality standards, as directed
Maintain lab and equipment cleanliness and a safe, sanitary working environment.
Adhere to and promote safety in accordance with policies and procedures. Report issues to Supervisor in a timely manner
Promote teamwork among the winemaking staff and all winery personnel.
Assist with analytical lab duties as instructed by Manager
Cross-train on other winemaking duties
Special projects, administrative support and other responsibilities as assigned
Maintain updated MSDS records for facility
Keep wine tracking software up to date and maintain accurate and detailed records of wine analysis and production activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in enology or other science related field
Basic knowledge of winemaking techniques, laboratory analytical methods and best viticultural practices
1-2 Years' Laboratory Experience
Strong attention to detail
Knowledge of analytical procedures
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions/directions
Ability to prioritize and multi-task
Must be able to recognize potential problems that require solutions to be found at a higher level
Ability to develop general proficiency with all laboratory equipment
Intermediate writing and mathematical skills
Basic skill level in using computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions/directions
Able to work a flexible schedule with overtime as requested, including weekends and off shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong Microsoft applications skills (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Forklift experience
Experience with Admeo Spica machine and/or Oenofoss
Familiarity with Wine Xray and Vintrace
Technical wine tasting experience (ability to identify and detect faults)
Good organizational, planning, and presentation skills
Clear commitment to high quality and attention to details

The lab presents a unique environment that requires performing tasks of a repetitious nature, the ability to change job priorities and the need for speed, accuracy and precision to ensure the highest quality standards.

The salary range for this role is:
$70,900.00 - $104,200.00
