You will be part of a team of people who are responsible for the availability of several of Discover's most critical applications: our PULSE network authorization switch and settlement platforms. You'll tap into your passion for ensuring these applications are highly available for our customers
How You'll Do It
Consult teams and provide hands-on training to teams in observability, incident management and reliability best practices.
Includes defining SLOsSLAsSLIs, on-call support behaviors, troubleshooting, building support playbooks, implementing monitoring and alerting, logging standards
Review product journeys and reliability practices on regular interval to enforce best practices.
Ensure delivery teams in the product family track and meet annual operational goals (MTTR reduction, incident reduction, platform availability, SLOSLA targets)
Ensure the proper level of documentation exists, is maintained, and reviewed regularly
Partner with Application Development teams to build resiliency into our critical application
Partner with our Application Develop teams to implement service level objectives
Partner with our Application Development teams and SREs to build out end to end observability
Implement monitoring, alerting and dashboards needed for our apps
Automate operational processes
Help to define disaster recovery plans needed for our critical apps
24/7 on call rotation Production Support
Creates technology solutions addressing high impact business priorities. Demonstrates the ability to analyze, design, code, test and deploy solutions and product features with high quality to production. Level of technical expertise enables solutions with high complexity and depth.
Competent in multiple technical domains, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains. As a result, is the go-to person for many people outside of their team.
Participates in strategic technology decisions and understands how these decisions impact Discover as a whole.
Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains. Is a thought leader amongst team members and drives problem solving to determine root cause.
Qualifications You'll Need
The Basics
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related.
6+ years of experience in Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related.
Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale
Physical And Cognitive Requirements
Primarily remain in a stationary position.
No required movement about the work environment to complete the major responsibilities of the job.
Primarily performed indoors in an office setting.
Ability to operate office equipment such as but not limited to computer, telephone, printer, and calculator.
Ability to communicate verbally; Ability to communicate in written form.
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience with Payments, financial services, or related field
Experience with ServiceNow, Moogsoft, Tableau, Datadog, Grafana, and Splunk
Experience and familiarity with network technology and operations
Unix and Bash scripting knowledge
Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated, team motivator, and team leader.
Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical business partners.
Proficient in monitoring, alerting, analyzing and troubleshooting large scale distributed systems
Experience in production support and problem management
Strong experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, or similar; Ab Initio EME; Git/GitHub; Artifactory
A desire to write tools and applications to automate work rather than do things manually
Foundational understanding of software programming
Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Delivery processes
Strong experience with Database Management; Snowflake MPP experience a plus
Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scalability) on new and current systems.
Experience with Connex on HPE NonStop and Connex Environment Database
Good to have knowledge and prior experience on ATM, POS and EMV transactions.
Familiar with settlements, reports and reconciliation.

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $107,000.00 to $180,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
