n Control (FMC) Division - Irvine facility. This position provides technical direction of product design in all PROLaunch phases and is responsible for quality and robustness of product design solutions of new or modified designs. This role externally represents Eaton Aerospace for specified product group and internally develops technical competencies within the engineering organization.
Job responsibilities
Assists Product Line Engineering Manager on both strategic and tactical initiatives in support of Divisional goals. Specific tasks will include deep dive into programs with significant technical challenges, provide site technical gap analysis of skills and resources, and train and mentor engineering talent.
Promotes the generation and documentation of new ideas for future patent protection.
Supports the definition and execution of the Technology Roadmap.
Interfaces with other FMC sites as well as supporting Divisional level technical initiatives, and other tasks assigned by the Site or Divisional Engineering Manager.
Chairs all Design Reviews and has ownership of design review technical outcome and provides final "go" / "no go" decision to pass necessary PROLaunch gates. Provides technical direction to assigned project engineers, design engineers, analysis engineers and draftsmen as necessary. Recommends major technical decisions on engineering approach to new designs or modifications of fielded designs.
Coordinates the development and maintenance of Design Standards for the Irvine site. Supports cross-divisional communication with other Chief Engineers to help establish common procedures and processes. Maintains library of "lessons learned" and updates design review check lists.
Communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to align on program CTQ's, and the analysis and resolution of specialized engineering problems. Represents Eaton Aerospace at technical conferences, when working with academic partners, and when collaborating on technical literature publications.
Supports engineering process continuous improvement efforts and coordinates closely with other Chief Engineers to implement common engineering best practices across the product line and division.
Spearheads an engineering culture that promotes a highly efficient and disciplined engineering process that enables the on time and on budget development of best-in-class products for our customers.
Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
Minimum fifteen (15) years of design/development experience in the aerospace industry
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future
This position requires the use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the international Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be US persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a US Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting manufacturing operations
Design and development experience of aircraft fuel systems and components such as engine and airframe fuel pumps
Proven track record of developing, defining, and protecting (through patents and trade secrets) solutions to complex mechanical design problems
Masters degree preferred.
Experience and knowledge of aerospace industry including platforms, systems, and components
Strong knowledge with Aerospace industry and military specifications including SAE, MIL, and ASTM
Experience leading complex RCCA investigations including the use of 8D tools.
Knowledge of Eaton products a plus
Strong leadership skills proven track record of team development
Robust and disciplined problem solving approach
Clarity in communication is critical, both verbal and written
Knowledge of the gated aerospace product development process
Expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and general drawing standards is a plus
