ty products. The Product Delivery Group (PDG) for power electronics-based products STATCOM and SVC is in Tampere, Finland, while the PDG for FSC and SC is in Saratoga Springs, United States.
In this position, you will focus on research and development around SVC and STATCOM solutions and you will be functionally reporting to NPI program leaders in Finland.
Job Description
Your main task is to research and develop optimized reactive power compensator systems. Target is to create innovative compensator configurations and controls which allows the compensator to meet more demanding customer requirements. These requirements may for example be related to losses and harmonic emissions, active / reactive power range, reliability, noise or magnetic field emissions and integration of energy storage to be a part of the compensator solution. Although you are focused on the R&D part of the system design, you will be having close collaboration with System design Engineering team.
In this very versatile role, you have possibility to become recognized expert in the field of overall system design of the reactive power compensator. Your areas of expertise will include:
calculation of optimal configuration for reactive power compensator
calculation of optimal energy storage size
analysis of losses and harmonic emissions
analysis of reliability
analysis and design of compensator control algorithms
integration of different components, e.g. energy storage to the STATCOM solution
overall understanding of electric subsystem design
FACTS devices and especially power-electronic based FACTS
Power system engineering
Cost competitiveness of FACTS solutions
In this role, you will be focusing on the product development as well as future products and technologies. Therefore, you will have the possibility see larger technology trends in the field of electrical power engineering. Due to the innovative nature of the role, you are expected to contribute on patents and scientific publications. This role gives you real opportunity to work for the more sustainable and green future power system.
The research and development work will comply with the good design practices starting from rigour specification definition to implementation, validation and documentation. Although you are joining to the NPI team located in Noida, you will have close collaboration with the FACTS NPI team and System Design Engineering team in Finland as well as HVDC NPI team located in Stafford, UK.
