Due to the growth of our HVDC business, we are offering the significant role as "Project Manager for Construction Activities/ HVDC/ Construction Manager" in the "Construction & Commissioning" function to participate in this energy transition for Central Europe. The Construction Manager shall be responsible for monitoring of all site-based construction activities of various projects under execution in GSI as per GE Quality, Construction & EHS Process and guidelines, provide critical construction cost related and other support to the bid management team for tenders in the region and will be fully responsible for coordination with customer representatives to ensure client compliance & satisfaction as per the contract.

The HVDC sites are in the Netherlands as well as in Asia for the platform construction.

The position holder reports to the Regional Construction Leader.

Mission description

In particular, the mission consists to:

• Tender Phase (ITO)

  • Coordinate costing & scheduling of site activities, like costs for the electromechanical installation works

  • Lead the definition of contracting strategy ( sub-con / partner) and its development and application throughout ITO phases with support from EHS, Quality, Planning & Sourcing

  • Prepare tender documents related to construction & Installation activities

  • Initially prepare and arrange to take possession of the site infrastructure and develop and plan temporary and permanent site infrastructure

  • Actively participate to project teams from feed stages all the way through completion.

• Execution Phase (OTR)

  • Implementing, Monitoring, recording and reporting of the Health, Safety and Environmental performance of the project site as per GE EHS standards in collaboration with Site Construction Staff

  • Responsible for preparation of staffing plan, mobilization of site teams & follow up of actuals vs. plan.

  • Set goals and objectives for the site managers mobilized on his projects

  • Liaise with design office for timely issuance of data required for preparation of site works (specs, designs, BOQ, material lists, ...)

  • Ensure Construction Operating Rhythm is deployed on all sites

  • Monitoring, recording and reporting of the contractor work progress along with Site construction teams

  • Coordinate with the Engineering teams and consortium partner for construction oriented designs

  • Coordinate Construction activities with the consortium partner (shipyard)

  • Publish progress reports and provide key inputs into Project monthly reports

  • Responsible for managing the risks and opportunities related to Construction & Commissioning activities

  • Monitor key construction events, through sample inspection of these activities to check that the contractors are complying with the contract requirements and the contractors' project Quality Plan

Candidate requirements

Skills / Qualifications

An appropriate qualification in Electrical Engineering with 5-10 years of work experience would be advantageous but equivalent experience in construction execution and site management is also feasible.

Have appropriate health and safety experience, training and qualifications in line with international standards for roles of this nature to be able to identify and stop unsafe works.

Experience

Previous experience of undertaking the role of Project Manager/ Construction Manager on a large Substation Project.

Have previous experience in the installation of key elements of the project including, but not limited to the following:

• High voltage switchgear (up to 400kV)

• Power transformers

• Power and control cabling

Knowledge

• Be knowledgeable on international standards and 'best practice' in relation to construction

• Be knowledgeable on environmental legislation and good industry practice in relation to construction works

• Be knowledgeable on the key applicable standards and specifications associated with the civil and electrical works construction applicable for countries in the region

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

• Ability to be proactive and recommend and approve corrective actions if required

• Will be required to travel frequently across the region and to Asia to project sites

• Ability to communicate effectively, and to accurately and concisely report both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in English mandatory.
