You'll be the go-to technical expert within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, applying modelling, simulation, and innovation to electrify rail networks more reliably, efficiently, and sustainably.
What You'll Do
• Act as the technical authority on railway power systems, power quality, and EMC impacts
• Design and model multi-MW rail electrification systems, including power converters and protection schemes
• Provide guidance to cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and delivery teams
• Lead technical analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, or DigSilent
• Support full lifecycle project activity from pre-bid, tendering, through to execution and validation
• Ensure all solutions comply with applicable Network Rail, national grid, and international standards
• Represent GE in technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and industry bodies
• Contribute to the ongoing power systems strategy for rail and utilities within the UK and globally
• Drive innovation and technology adoption to meet the demands of future railway infrastructure
• Collaborate with sales and business development teams in technical workshops and customer engagement
• Support timely and quality-driven project delivery, balancing cost and performance.
What You'll Bring
• Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering, ideally with a focus on power systems
• Significant experience in railway power systems, grid connection, and power quality/EMC
• Strong knowledge of power electronic converter systems in rail or industrial settings
• Track record of designing or reviewing rail electrification systems (HV/MV/LV)
• Familiarity with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, or DigSilent
What Will Make You Stand Out
• Experience working on UK rail infrastructure or similar regulated transport/power projects
• Ability to lead multiple technical workstreams in a fast-paced, evolving project environment
• Strong stakeholder communication and technical presentation skills
• Detail-oriented approach with the ability to explain complex systems clearly
• Experience embedding safety and compliance into technical designs
