Adapt the transportation fixture, packaging, and preservation designs to the modes of transport, logistic cycle, storage conditions respecting company Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and international transportation standards.
Create & refine design practices to drive consistent implementation of the transportation, packaging, and preservation across wind turbine platforms and regions.
Provide support to Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Projects teams to solve packaging-related problems.
Use all available physical & electronic resources to research technical problems and find solutions independently.
Own risk identification and mitigation process including dFMEA and design validation.
Take ownership of all transportation and packaging related issues within GEV Onshore and Offshore Wind for both domestic and international wind turbine platforms.
Work cross functionally with Systems and Subsystem teams to define component interfaces and ensure all designs meet program requirements.
Work cross functionally with Sourcing and Global Logistics teams to resolve all supplier-related packaging issues and support review and validation of supplier packaging procedures as required.
Prioritize work using inputs from internal customers and ensure work aligns with Transportation Engineering team goals and objectives.
Develop and publish transportation fixture and packaging specifications for use by 3rd party design entities.
Perform trade-off studies to ensure transportation fixture, packaging, and preservation designs are effective and cost competitive.
Perform and/or manage special projects under the direction of the Transportation Engineering Leader.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Material, or Packaging Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years product design and development experience
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of time
Desired Characteristics
Excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills
Knowledge of CAD (preferably Unigraphics NX 3D-CAD), FEA (preferably Ansys) and PLM tools
Fluent English written and spoken.
Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries.
Experience in the wind industry
Experience in packaging, supply chain, or shipping & logistics
Experience in large fabrication design
Experience in an industrial environment
Knowledge of shipping & transportation regulatory standards
Ability to work independently and demonstrate leadership qualities of self and others.
