    Position summary

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Develop and maintain commercial property underwriting guidelines that align with business strategies , support profitable underwriting , and protect the organization. Work with business partners on communication and training of new and updated underwriting guidelines.

    • Identify underwriting improvement opportunities and create and deliver targeted training to improve underwriting execution and profitability of the property line.

    • Support the development, maintenance and enhancement of underwriting tools and vendor applications (e.g. - ISO/Verisk, CoreLogic, e tc. ).

    • Monitor the performance of the commercial property line and recommend portfolio management and pricing initiatives.

    • Participate in state rate review meetings and influence rate filings, pricing targets, mix management (geography / industry) and appetite.

    • Provide underwriting insights that support superior product innovation, development and maintenance.

    • Scan the environment for emerging issues that could impact the performance of the property line and make recommendations on potential responses from both an offensive and defensive perspective.

    • In partnership with Corporate Risk, support the effective monitoring and management of aggregations for catastrophe perils including all windstorm , earthquake, flood, terrorism and wildfire.

    • Monitor property loss frequency and severity and review large losses to identify lessons learned and provide appropriate guidance to the field.

    • Partner with all the business units that write property to help support or develop individual initiatives.

    Position Requirements:

    • 10 + years of experience in an underwriting role with strong property underwriting and pricing acumen .

    • Strong leadership, collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills .

    • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively assimilate information and develop insights that drive underwriting strategy .

    • Ability to identify and evaluate issues/problems and drive pro-active solutions .

    • Self-motivated and independent and can effectively prioritize and deliver quality work in a timely fashion .

    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization .

    • Bachelor's degree or higher .

    • CPCU and other designations desirable but not required .
