    Position summary

    Manager (WLM) ist eine Betriebssystemkomponente, welche die Systemressourcen dynamisch steuert, um sicherzustellen, dass alle Workloads auf einem System gemäß ihren vorgegebenen Performance-Zielen effizient verarbeitet werden. Performance-Ziele werden dabei in sogenannten Service-Klassen kategorisiert. Über die Jahre hinweg entstehen oft zahlreiche Definitionen, deren Redundanz oder Ähnlichkeit nicht immer offensichtlich ist. Im Rahmen der kontinuierlichen Modernisierung des IBM Mainframe-Betriebssystems z/OS soll untersucht werden, ob sich innerhalb der bestehenden Service-Klassen eines Systems Gruppen mit großen Übereinstimmungen identifizieren lassen.

    Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zunächst zu definieren, was "Ähnlichkeit" zwischen Service-Klassen überhaupt bedeuten kann - etwa hinsichtlich ihrer Parameter, Nutzungsmuster oder Performance-Ziele. Darauf aufbauend sollen verschiedene Ansätze zur Ähnlichkeitsanalyse recherchiert, verglichen und bewertet werden. Anschließend soll ein oder mehrere dieser Ansätze prototypisch implementiert werden, um Ähnlichkeiten automatisiert zu erkennen und in Form eines Prozentwerts darzustellen.

    Diese Arbeit bietet die Möglichkeit, tief in ein zentrales Thema der Systemarchitektur einzutauchen und dabei praxisrelevante Erkenntnisse für die Weiterentwicklung von z/OS zu gewinnen.

Außerdem bietet dir die Bachelor-Arbeit in unserem Team einen Einblick in das Betriebssystem IBM z/OS. Du benötigst dafür keine Vorkenntnisse in den Bereichen IBM z/OS oder Mainframe.
