Senior IBM Cloud Kubernetes Platform Engineer

We are looking for developers who have worked with IP networks, virtualization technologies, understand containers and not afraid of learning Kubernetes to deliver platform for business critical applications for both IBM services as well as Customer deployments.

The successful candidate will work as a Software Developer who is going to be part of IBM Cloud organization.

If you are passionate about solving hard problems and you want to be part of a team who builds the next generation of IBM Cloud, the opportunity is to work on Kubernetes and OpenShift internals, load balancers, proxies, DNS and much more. The potential impact is very high and measured on a global scale.

You will be expected to collaborate with cross-functional DevOps and SRE teams to improve platform reliability and performance, assist with troubleshooting, and contribute to platform documentation and best practices.

A passion for automation, understanding of Kubernetes primitives, and experience with managing hybrid cloud environments are essential to success in this role.

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

• Skilled in specifying, building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting production-grade code.

• Excellent troubleshooting ability, clear and thorough documentation practices, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

• Containerization & Orchestration: Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and related technologies for scalable deployments.

• Networking & Service Mesh: Strong understanding of network protocols, traffic routing, and service mesh frameworks (e.g., Istio).

• Reverse Proxies: Experience with proxy configuration and load balancing for high-availability systems

• Software Development: Solid programming background; Golang highly preferred for backend and cloud-native development.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• DNS & TLS: Proficient in domain name resolution and secure communication protocols, including certificate management and encryption.

• Scripting: Skilled in Bash/Shell scripting for automation and system tasks.

• CI/CD Pipelines: Hands-on experience with Tekton, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions for automated build and deployment.

• Monitoring & Observability: Familiar with Prometheus, Grafana, and Sysdig for system health and performance monitoring.

• Infrastructure as Code: Proficient in Terraform and Ansible for automated provisioning and configuration management.
