Primary Function of Position

The Future Forward group within Intuitive Surgical is searching for a Sr. Vision System Engineer to help design the vision system for a novel robotic surgical platform. As an early member of the team, this role is an exciting opportunity to help define the eventual product from early prototypes through clinical trials and into product launch.

Essential Job Duties

As part of the New Product Development team, the engineer will work with team members to:

• Define, narrow down, and select architectures for the new platform vision system from illuminated object to displayed image
• Translate clinical requirements and user needs to functional designs and technical specifications
• Build mathematical models to simulate the overall system performance and enable design tradeoffs and performance predictions
• Define requirements and budgets for individual components and susbsystems to achieve the overall performance, including:
  • Objective lens
  • Focus stage
  • Image sensor
  • Electronics
  • Pipeline
  • Camera control
  • Display
• Assemble and test early prototypes and use result to improve next round of designs
• Generate design concepts for next generation endoscopic devices

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

• Minimum BS in relevant engineering or scientific discipline
• Minimum 5 years experience designing complex opto- or electro-mechanical assemblies
• Strong background in imaging systems, sensors, and optics
• Hands-on experience assembling and testing complex opto- or electro-mechanical assemblies
• Proven ability to work well with others
• Good documentation skills

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $143,500 USD - $206,500 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $122,000 USD - $175,600 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
