DFSMS Ecosystem
Design, configure, and manage DFSMS components:
Implement and optimize DFHSM policies for migration, backups, and recalls.
Use DFDSS (ADRDSSU) for copy, backup/restore, volume duplication, and replication workflows.
Capacity Planning & Performance
Conduct capacity planning for DASD, tape/VTS, and replication technologies.
Use RMF/SMF data, vendor tools, and internal utilities for trending, forecasting, and storage optimization.
Identify growth patterns, hotspots, and performance bottlenecks; recommend capacity expansions.
Storage Arrays & Replication
Configure and operate IBM DS8K/ESS DASD, TS7700/3490 VTS, and associated storage management tools.
Set up and manage Copy Services, including:
Support design and management of replication topologies for both local and remote sites.
GDPS/MGM Environment Support
Support and maintain GDPS/MGM (Global Mirror + Metro Global Mirror) environments to achieve continuous availability and disaster recovery.
Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and business continuity teams to ensure RPO/RTO goals.
Validate replication states, consistency groups, failover readiness, and DR exercise execution.
Monitoring, Reporting & Automation
Monitor storage health, performance, replication status, HSM queues, and VTS workloads.
Implement and optimize monitoring using RMF/SMF, OEM tools, or in‑house dashboards.
Automate storage tasks using REXX, scripts, or vendor utilities to reduce manual operations.
Incident, Change & Problem Management
Troubleshoot complex storage-related incidents including I/O errors, device failures, HSM issues, and replication breaks.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA), coordinate vendor interaction, and implement permanent fixes.
Create and execute change records, risk assessments, implementation plans, and back‑out strategies.
Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain accurate documentation for storage architectures, procedures, runbooks, and DR playbooks.
