Overview:
The 'Services within Mastercard' division is responsible for acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers by managing fraud and risk, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving the digital payments experience. We provide value-added services and leverage expertise, data-driven insights, and execution.
Identity Verification, within Services, sets the global standard in identity verification, providing businesses worldwide the ability to link any digital transaction to the human behind it. Our Identity Engine, the first and only of its kind, uses complex machine learning to combine features derived from the billions of transactions within our proprietary network and the data from our graph to deliver industry-leading risk assessment solutions.
We are the Services Platform Team, responsible for building and optimizing the features and integrations that power our customer-facing API products. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer for our Services Platform Team.
Our ideal candidate is a problem solver with a passion for and experience in mentoring and leading developers, optimizing processes, using functional programming technologies to build highly resilient and low-latency APIs, all with an eye for innovation and looking towards the future and with a bias for growing the team together.
Role & Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a geographically diverse development Scrum team in an Agile environment
• Help lead and mentor members of the team
• Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software backend (REST API) solutions
• Partner with stakeholders to refine requirements for new applications and customization adhering to Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices
• Develop, customize, and test applications to integrate to Mastercard's specifications
• Be part of a day-time team on-call schedule to support our APIs during customer use.
All About You:
You're a collaborative, curious engineer with:
• Strong willingness and ability to learn/take on challenging opportunities, build relationships and act as an ambassador for engineering
• Proven experience in backend development in Agile teams
• Strong communication and mentoring skills
• Proficiency in JVM or object-oriented languages (Java, C#, Python, etc.)
• Exposure to functional programming (e.g., Clojure)
• Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and modern dev practices
Helpful to have:
Bonus points for experience with:
• Security and compliance standards (e.g., PCI DSS, CCPA, GDPR)
• Functional programming, RESTful APIs, CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, ArgoCD), container orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes or EKS)
• Automated testing (Cucumber, RestAssured)
• Databases (SQL, NoSQL), monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace), and Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence)
• Interest in fraud detection and scalable systems
Education / Experience:
• Experience in delivering secure solutions in Financial / Fraud Services Sector is preferred. Broad understanding of Software Engineering Concepts and Methodologies is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
