    Position summary

    drives macroeconomic thought leadership in support of Mastercard's efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy
    • The Economics Institute was launched in 2020 to analyze macroeconomic trends through the lens of the consumer to deliver tailored and actionable insights on economic issues for customers, partners and policymakers
    • The Institute is composed of a team of economists and data scientists that utilize & synthesize the anonymized and aggregated data from the Mastercard network together with public data to bring powerful insights to life, in the form of 1:1 presentations, global thought leadership, media participation, and commercial work through the Economics Practice

    About the Role
    We are looking for an economist who will focus on creating custom, interactive and actionable insights. This individual will report to the Chief Economist of the Mastercard Economics Institute and have the following responsibilities:
    • Develop and maintain macroeconomic views for the US and Canada, with a focus on the regional economy
    • Expertise with regional US data with views around state and local economies
    • Create content and present insights as a representative of Mastercard in customer forums, consulting read-outs and industry events, including media appearances as needed - on broadcast, print, online media - positioning us as an industry leader with highly differentiated capabilities
    • Write regular outlooks & blog-style research notes
    • Create briefing documents for Mastercard leadership teams and regional advisory boards
    • Drive thought leadership to better explore data and economic relationships
    • Collaborate with the data scientists/quantitative economists to create interactive and tailored presentations
    • Work with the data scientists to explore alternative data sets, modeling and forecasting to push the boundaries in more traditional economics

    All About You
    • Strong economist with an entrepreneurial mindset and 15 years+ of experience in economics
    • Evidence of both orthodox and experimental approaches in economic thinking, interpretation or application
    • Manage complex projects and timelines effectively, serving as a strong collaborator
    • Must have good knowledge of econometrics and familiarity with analytical tools for big data exploration, particularly regional datasets
    • Openness to new ideas, approaches, challenges and environments
    • Extensive experience presenting to senior stakeholders and public speaking

    In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
