    Position summary

    Model Risk Management program, reporting to the Vice President - Enterprise Risk Management and collaborating closely with first, second, and third line partners (including data science, technology, privacy, law, actuarial, compliance, and internal audit) across the enterprise.

    What you will do:

    • Lead the Company's ongoing evolution and maturation of its model risk management framework into an AI & model risk management framework and program, anticipating new business, technical, and regulatory developments related to artificial intelligence and more traditional modeling capabilities, proposing practical methods appropriate to the nature, scale, and complexity of the risk.

    • Lead enterprise second line capability on AI and model risk oversight, including: leading or co-leading cross-functional teams for AI and model risk management; accountability for enterprise model inventory, risk assessment, and risk reporting; coordinating with risk and business partners, including first-line partners in Data Science & Analytics and other parts of the organization to facilitate effective first line risk management practices and integration with enterprise-level model governance; driving compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

    • Drive improvements to the Company's model governance policy and practices, including cross-functional work to establish standards and controls to support effective AI and model risk management, AI & model risk assessment, sensitive factor assessment and bias testing, validations, documentation, etc.

    • Guide ERM model governance staff to achieve AI & model risk management program objectives.

    • Recommend appropriate governance structures for AI and model risk management.

    • Oversee systems and tools supporting AI & model risk management program.

    • Understand and engage with enterprise partners on developing regulatory expectations and industry-standard processes related to AI and model governance and risk management.

    • Support other Enterprise Risk Management & Resiliency initiatives as needed.

    • Minimum of 10 years' progressive relevant professional experience in data science, actuarial science, risk management, law, finance, accounting, statistics, or a related field.

    • At least 5 years of leadership experience with exposure to senior management.

    • Demonstrated expertise in AI and model risk management, including a working knowledge of AI and data analytic modeling techniques and relevant risk management frameworks (e.g., Fed SR 11-7, NIST AI Risk Management Framework).

    • Deep understanding of the financial services industry and the Company's operating environment, with a preference for familiarity with Northwestern Mutual's business, organizational structure, and culture.

    • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.

    • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively influence and connect with key partners. Experience in data visualization is a plus.

    • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects.

    Compensation Range:

    Pay Range - Start:

    $118,510.00

    Pay Range - End:

    $220,090.00
