This position reports to the Vice President - Planning.
The Director of Interconnection Analysis will assist the Vice President - Planning in accomplishing the following goals:**
Maintain the safety, adequacy, reliability, and security, of the power system.
Support the creation and operation of a robust, competitive, and non-discriminatory electric power market.
Ensure that no member or group of members has an undue influence over PJM activities.
Maintain the confidence of government entities and participants through demonstrated excellence in PJM's organizational performance.
Deliver exceptional services with integrity, efficiency, and technical innovation.
Essential Functions:
Oversee the management of analytical interconnection work such as load flow, dynamic studies, & short circuit studies in order to maintain the process schedule and provide timing & cost certainty to project developers and enable new generation to come online
Works with other RTO/ISOs in the coordination of affected system's interconnection studies to ensure timely delivery of PJM study results
Investigate new innovations in software & engineering methods to reduce process timing
Manages and provides leadership to the Interconnection Analysis departments at PJM
Creates the Interconnections Analysis sub division vision, strategy, goals and objectives and communicates it to Interconnection Leadership
Develops and implements tactical plans consistent with the division strategy
Focuses on people and leadership development in order to create a sustainable future for the division. Encourages growth among staff and management by providing consistent, constructive, and actionable feedback
Provides leadership and technical expertise and training to staff in the completion of engineering assignments that support present and future needs of PJM Planning
Develops and manages all departmental budgets within the overall company budgeting process
Prepares reports and presentations as necessary to support activities associated with the Planning Division
Manages the design, development and implementation of PJM's project management tools
Manages and coordinates the development of recommendations to PJM and member company management based on detailed knowledge of engineering industry criteria, practices, and government regulations for the implementation of new transmission projects
Develops benchmarks and measures the ongoing effectiveness of relevant processes and systems
Consolidates improvements and produces effective change initiatives
Supports the development and implementation of the strategic initiatives of the organization
Supports stakeholder outreach activities to gather input related to the implementation of the planning process and the achievement of organizational goals
Develops, communicates, and implements effective administrative strategies that support short, mid- and long-term objectives
Supports the activities of PJM or industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups involving issues related to planning and engineering
Coordinate with other PJM groups as needed to complete generator required upgrades and modeling changes
Coordinate with other PJM groups on compliance related issues associated with PJM Planning
Work in cooperation with Transmission Owners and developers of merchant transmission system projects and generation projects, to bring those projects into service in a timely fashion
Perform other responsibilities as directed by PJM executive leadership
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of power system engineering concepts, principles, theories, regulations, standards, reliability concepts and techniques especially as they apply to PJM operations, planning, and markets
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of evolving industry regulatory issues as they apply to the PJM System and the role of PJM as an RTO
Possess a detailed understanding of PJM planning and operations
Possess an in-depth understanding of the PJM Agreements and Tariffs
Empower staff to complete duties aligned with the vision
Maintain an inspired culture that is centered on integrity and customer focus
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
10+ years of leadership experience in a managerial/supervisory role
5-10 years of leadership experience in a managerial/supervisory role. related work experience, which should include an in-depth knowledge of power system engineering principles, theories, regulations, standards, reliability concepts, and techniques as they apply to PJM's Planning Division
