PJM Interconnection response, October 2023
PJM supports all of our employees’ wellbeing through our Total Rewards offerings. To clarify PJM’s policies, PJM complies with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which provides for 12 weeks of unpaid leave with job protection for the birth of a child. PJM’s short-term disability (STD) and parental leave policies run concurrently with the FMLA. Employees are provided with 6 weeks of STD for a vaginal birth or 8 weeks of STD for a C-section at a rate of 100% of base pay. In addition to the STD pay, PJM provides four weeks of parental leave at 100% of base pay. Employees are able to extend their paid leave by using their PTO, floating holidays and vacation days, or they may take additional time off without pay. PJM allows employees to extend their 12 weeks of FMLA time with an additional 12 weeks of personal leave time off, for a total of 6 months of time off to bond with a child. An employee’s annual bonus will be prorated for any time the employee is on leave over and above the 12 weeks of FMLA. For example, if the employee is out for 13 weeks, their bonus will be calculated as if they worked 51 weeks in that year as opposed to 52 weeks. The 12 weeks of FMLA time does not negatively impact their bonus.
