    Position summary

    The GMDS Stability Engineer will perform dynamic and steady-state reliability analyses to support PJM's planning and operational functions. Key responsibilities include:

    • Conducting baseline reliability studies under the RTEP to assess system stability and recommend transmission reinforcements.

    • Supporting PJM's Operations Stability Team with real-time stability concerns.

    • Presenting technical findings to stakeholders and facilitating discussions on mitigation strategies and industry challenges.

    • Representing PJM in industry forums and working groups.

    • Managing consultant engagements, including contract development, technical oversight, and review of study results.

    Essential Functions:

    • Interpret and apply NERC standards relevant to PJM's role as a Reliability Coordinator, Planning Coordinator, and Transmission Planner.

    • Perform or review stability analyses using industry-standard tools.

    • Evaluate transmission reinforcements to address reliability and operational constraints.

    • Develop and maintain power flow and dynamic simulation cases.

    • Innovate and enhance analysis methodologies within the planning process.

    • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to support departmental and divisional activities.

    • Collaborate with generator and transmission owners to investigate and resolve dynamic stability issues.

    • Work cross-functionally across PJM divisions to address complex engineering challenges.

    • Represent PJM in external committees, task forces or stakeholder groups focused on planning and engineering topics.

    Characteristics & Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Power Systems engineering.

    • Proficiency with power system simulation tools such as PSSE, DSA Tools, TARA, and PSCAD to perform dynamics studies.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    • Familiarity with NERC and IEEE standards.

    • Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality technical work.

    • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

    • Solid foundation in electrical theory and mathematical modeling.

    • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Capacity to visualize and solve complex engineering problems.

    Preferred:

    • Master's Degree in Electrical Power Engineering.
    • 4+ years of experience in system planning stability studies.
    • Familiarity with PJM's operations, markets, and planning processes.
    • Advanced experience with PSS/E.
    • Strong presentation and training delivery skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization.
