    Position summary

    drive legal initiatives for our cutting-edge Slack products, with a focus on regulatory, product, privacy, security, and AI, including a partnership with our Office of Ethical and Humane Use team. This role will partner closely with research, engineering, and product teams to identify and mitigate legal risks, while also contributing to our broader Cybersecurity Legal program. You will cultivate trusted relationships, provide strategic counsel on product development, and offer creative solutions to complex legal challenges.

    Responsibilities:

    • Advise the Slack executives, product managers, and engineering teams on legal considerations for new features and product updates, with a focus on privacy, data protection, and compliance

    • Provide legal guidance and risk assessments for Slack's use of machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly around data privacy and security

    • Monitor and advise on evolving legal and regulatory requirements that impact Slack's products and services, such as the EU's Digital Services Act

    • Work with Product, Legal and Ethics teams to develop and manage internal policy guidance and enforcement

    • Build cross-functional relationships with business teams as well as other internal stakeholders

    • Provide strategic and timely client training on relevant issues and processes

    Required Skills/Experience:

    • Law degree and admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction

    • 4-8 years combined experience in law firm and/or in-house legal department

    • Strong understanding of key regulatory requirements, including data privacy laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for a technical audience

    • Sound and practical business judgment

    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and demanding work environment

    • Highly responsive with a service-oriented attitude and ability to maintain strong working relationships with demanding internal clients

    • Collaborative team player combined with ability to work independently

    • Sense of humor

    Desired Skills/Experience:

    • In-house experience at a technology company, with significant privacy or product counseling experience

    • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)

    • Familiarity with software development lifecycles and agile methodologies

    • Substantive expertise in SaaS laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, E-Privacy)

    For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $167,300 to $230,000.

    For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.

    For Washington D.C based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.

    For Illinois based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.

    For Massachusetts based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.
