    Position summary

    actuarial functions-including indications, planning, reserving, and more-for multiple lines of business.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exhibit effective written and verbal communication abilities, and collaborate seamlessly with team members and business partners. They will show initiative in learning and applying actuarial concepts and technical tools, maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all work products, and consistently display professionalism and integrity in all interactions.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct financial and actuarial analyses, including trend analysis, profitability reporting, and rate/price guidance; communicate findings and recommendations to business partners.

    • Monitor growth and profitability metrics monthly, identifying emerging patterns and sharing insights with Actuarial and Underwriting teams.

    • Collaborate with Underwriting and Product teams on strategies and execution.

    • Support ad hoc analyses for new business opportunities and cross-functional data requests, while identifying opportunities to automate manual processes and improve data pipelines.

    • Apply technical skills (e.g., R, SQL, Python) to enhance team efficiency and uncover insights into book performance.

    • Support project planning and communication efforts, including strategy development, meeting facilitation, and presentations to Product and Underwriting partners.

    Experience & Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field is required.

    • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex issues.

    • Strong Excel skills required. Knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS or similar code languages a plus.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Sr Actuarial Analyst Role: 4 actuarial exams, 2+ years of experience

    • AD & Associate Actuary Role: 6-7 actuarial exams, 4+ years of experience, could be an Associate

    Location:

    This role is based in Hartford. However, consideration may be given for placement at our Charlotte or Chicago hubs depending on the candidate's years of relevant work experience.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $91,600 - $169,800

    The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
