    Position summary

    payment, performance and commercial claims on surety bonds including proactively implementing and managing mitigation strategies, timely reporting to management and thorough population of claim files.

    • Communicate with principals, obligees, claimants, indemnitors, and others to develop information to enable fair and prompt resolution of claims, mitigation opportunities and recovery efforts.

    • Carefully review proofs of loss and supporting documentation on all manner of surety bond claims.

    • Set accurate and timely reserves, prepare required reports to management, and communicate progress of claims investigations and implemented strategies to claim management.

    • Select, manuscript and/or amend as necessary appropriate construction industry documents to discharge bond obligations and otherwise implement mitigation strategies including takeover agreements, completion contracts, tender agreements, financing agreements, intercreditor agreements and all related documents from principal, indemnitors, obligees and others.

    • Timely and cost-effective management of all assigned litigation matters including evaluation of conflict waivers and pleadings and making decisions with respect to tendering or retaining counsel as the circumstances of the litigation require. Ongoing management of litigated matters to be frequently reexamined to evaluate case strategy and decisions as the litigation matures.

    • Provide active management of outside legal, accounting, construction, or other professional resources to achieve best claim outcomes, including coordination with in-house professionals on scope design, budgeting and monitoring work product.

    • Actively assess and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities at the outset of and throughout all claims.

    • Provide strong support and mentoring to all members of the claim team.

    • Travel up to 25%

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree Required

    • Juris Doctorate Required

    • Minimum of 8 years surety claim/ construction litigation claims experience

    Additional Information:

    This role can be Hybrid or Remote as aligned with the Hartford's Return to Office initiative. If you live near a Hartford office location, you will work in office at least 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). If you are not near an office, this role will be 100% Remote, with the expectation of occasional in-office presence as business needs dictate.

    As a condition of your employment, you must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by your office. Continued employment with The Hartford is contingent upon the successful passage of the Licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of the licensing training.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $104,480 - $156,720
