    Primary Accountability

    Lead the development of comprehensive AI lifecycle frameworks encompassing activities, risk assessments, and approval processes that enable consistent AI project execution while ensuring safety and compliance with regulatory expectations. Drive the creation of differentiated governance approaches for various AI scenarios and risk profiles.

    This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT preferred) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Must be eligible to work without company sponsorship.

    Key Responsibilities:

    AI Lifecycle Development & Framework Design

    • Develop AI Lifecycle process for various AI project types: Design and implement lifecycle frameworks for internally built AI solutions, 3rd party AI models, and productivity platform use cases

    • Risk-Based Differentiation: Create tiered governance approaches based on risk levels, including low-risk self-service paths and high-risk comprehensive review processes

    • Cross-Functional Integration: Partner with Data & AI organization, CIO, Architecture, SSRE, Legal, Compliance, ERM and Third-Party Risk teams to ensure comprehensive lifecycle coverage

    Governance Process Implementation

    • Approval Process Design: Evolve Gen AI review board process

    • Checkpoint Implementation: Define and implement multiple governance checkpoints with clear governing criteria for each stage

    • Documentation Standards: Lead the development of comprehensive documentation requirements, reference guides, and alignment to existing policies, standards, and controls

    • GCP Integration: Integrate AI governance frameworks with Google Cloud Platform services and other enterprise platforms

    • Oversee the vendor selection and implementation of an AI Governance system, to instrument the AI life cycle activities and signoffs and manage the inventory and AI portfolio reporting

    Knowledge Management & Enablement

    • Knowledge Hub Creation: Build and maintain a centralized repository of AI governance resources, best practices, and guidance materials

    • Process Instrumentation: Implement measurement and tracking systems for governance process effectiveness and adoption

    • Change Management: Lead organizational change initiatives to drive adoption of AI governance frameworks across business units

    Compliance & Risk Management

    • Regulatory Alignment: Ensure AI governance frameworks meet current and emerging regulatory requirements, partnering with legal and compliance

    • Risk Assessment: Develop and maintain risk identification processes and automated approval pathways for appropriate use cases, in partnership with ERM and other risk governors

    • Vendor Management: Create governance frameworks for third-party AI solutions and ensure routines are implemented to achieve regulatory compliance

    Performance & Value Tracking

    • Adoption Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators for governance framework adoption and effectiveness

    • Value Measurement: Develop methodologies to track and report on the business value delivered through governed AI implementations

    • Continuous Improvement: Drive iterative enhancement of governance processes based on feedback and performance data

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Business, Technology, Risk Management, or related field preferred

    • 15+ years of experience in governance functions, risk management, AIML operations or technology program management

    • 5+ years experience with AI/DS/ML projects

    • Demonstrated experience partnering with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management functions and building governance frameworks

    • Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and associated governance challenges

    Technical Competencies

    • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, deployment models, and associated risks

    • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and enterprise technology governance a plus

    • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to AI (e.g. NAIC, NIST, Google SAIF)

    • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and compliance processes

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with agile governance approaches and DevOps integration

    • Background in insurance, financial services, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries

    • Prior experience with AI ethics and responsible AI frameworks

    • Prior experience with process optimization and change management in complex environments

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $176,000 - $264,000
