will collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to drive AI-driven initiatives that align with Hartford's strategic AI growth agenda. Your role will focus on leading the development and scaling of core AI platform capabilities, ensuring seamless integration and operational excellence. You will work closely with AI and MLOps engineers, providing strategic direction, technical mentorship, and cross-functional coordination to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability across the AI ecosystem.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
You will be responsible for:
Supporting the vision and strategy by driving the development of core AI platform capabilities as a senior technical leader.
Building and managing a world-class high-performance platform engineering team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
Applying very strong engineering expertise in AI, ML, and modern data technologies to enhance platform functionality.
Leading the design, development, and scaling of large platforms with a focus on reliability, scalability, and security.
Drive the development and implementation of Gen AI and AI platform capabilities, including evaluating and selecting AI and ML frameworks platforms and tools. Leverage cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to optimize business operations, enhance customer experience, and drive competitive advantage
Providing mentorship and career growth opportunities for technical teams as an inspirational people leader.
Demonstrating strong behavioral traits of enterprise-level leadership, effectively influencing teams and stakeholders, acting as a go-getter, and driving execution.
Defining and executing the vision and roadmap for AI platform that align with the organization's strategic goals and customer needs.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in leading AI and ML Engineering organizations with expertise in building and/or managing large-scale AI, data and analytics platforms.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure.
Knowledgeable about the principles and practices of FMOps and LLMOps, and the tools and technologies used for generative AI model operations.
Strong understanding of GenAI, machine learning, and related technologies along with business acumen.
Ability to collaborate and partner with business leaders and IT/Data Science teams.
Experience in leading Agile teams, SAFE experience is a plus.
Strong leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage teams made up of both employees and vendor partners that are located in multiple geographies.
In-depth knowledge of data management strategies, practices, and principles is a plus.
Experience with cloud-based data-related platforms and open-source data-related technologies is beneficial.
Experience establishing frameworks for data quality, data governance, stewardship, and metadata management is valuable.
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$180,000 - $270,000
