    Position summary

    This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Platform Leadership: Serve as the Platform Application Owner, meeting enterprise standards for security, audits, resiliency, and certifications. Own and evolve Platform Engineering runbooks.

    • Scalability & Performance: Design and implement auto-scaling strategies, optimize infrastructure for cost and reliability, and continuously monitor performance.

    • Resiliency & Disaster Recovery: Develop and validate DR strategies, execute failover tests, and deliver high availability across regions.

    • Environment Configuration: Manage Apigee environments and configurations, capacity planning, performance tuning, and auto-scaling.

    • Infrastructure-as-Code: Champion automation by implementing IaC for provisioning and configuration.

    • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a Platform Engineering team to modernize, automate, and deliver on ambitious OKRs and KPIs.

    • Platform Stability: Drive platform monitoring, alerting, health checks, and incident response to maintain uninterrupted API operations.

    Required Experience:

    • Overall Experience: 8+ years of experience in platform engineering and infrastructure, leading teams and delivering scalable, reliable systems.

    • Google Cloud Expertise: 2+ years hands-on experience provisioning Apigee in GCP (or similar), configuring environments, administering the platform, managing scalability and performance

    • Leadership: 2+ years direct HR responsibility for a team of infrastructure/platform engineers supporting API and middleware platforms.

    • Operational Excellence: Proven track record in platform stability, monitoring, DR testing, support operations, and incident response.

    • Player-Coach: Be able to be hands-on with Apigee engineering, IaC, and operations while coaching and developing the team.

    • Collaboration & Modernization: Experience driving platform transformation and modernization initiatives while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-engagement team culture.

    Preferred Experience

    • Ownership of API or middleware platforms as an Enterprise Application Platform Owner.

    • Experience with API transformation, modernization and migration.

    • Google Cloud and AWS certifications.

    • Insurance industry experience is helpful.

    Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
    $138,000 - $207,000
