    Position summary

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Talent Development

    • Directly manage and coach a team of field underwriters; provide indirect support to center-based underwriting talent and account managers.

    • Attract, select, and develop high-caliber, diverse talent; plan for future staffing needs.

    • Drive performance through active coaching, development planning, and a pay-for-performance philosophy.

    • Foster a collaborative, engaged team environment with open communication and involvement in planning and decision-making.

    Distribution Management & Sales Leadership

    • Build strategic partnerships with key agents, brokers, and clients.

    • Collaborate with Division and Regional Office leadership on agency management for top partners.

    • Implement segment sales plans and monitor team execution of pipelining strategies.

    • Drive new business growth, client retention, and agency penetration through sales excellence.

    • Maintain competitive intelligence to inform strategy and positioning.

    Book Management & Financial Performance

    • Accountable for financial results of the assigned territory.

    • Develop and execute strategic and operating plans to drive profitable growth.

    • Manage risk selection and pricing decisions to ensure underwriting profitability.

    • Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.

    • Optimize business flow and mix to achieve short- and long-term financial goals.

    Enterprise Collaboration & Operational Excellence

    • Partner with home office leadership to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and practices.

    • Leverage quality management and referral programs to maintain compliance and develop talent.

    • Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, and service operations to enhance offerings and processes.

    • Champion enterprise tools and reporting systems to track and measure success.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 8 years of commercial underwriting experience with a strong preference for prior management or supervisory experience.

    • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant industry designation preferred.

    • Proven leadership capabilities and business acumen.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn internal systems.

    • Established personal brand and strong relationships with general industry brokers in the territory.

    • Ability to travel regularly within the assigned region.

    • Title and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $132,080 - $198,120
