    Position summary

    o meet the needs and objectives of the Risk Engineering laboratory's daily needs.

    • Manage daily procurement of Laboratory consumables, collaborating with vendors and setting up accounts.

    • Maintain computer records of evidence, documents, chain of custody and related documents.

    • Point of contact for all matters associated with evidence management.

    • In coordination with Lab Technicians, assist with the procurement (kits and/or freight) of forensic evidence, as well as its receipt, and log into the appropriate laboratory data systems. Coordinate the disposal of evidence once approvals are obtained per current laboratory procedures.

    • Assure evidence is transported/shipped and stored per company guidelines and Government legal guidelines/requirements.

    • Responsible for Laboratory billing with internal and external partners.

    • Responsible for laboratory reports to clients and maintaining records in company systems.

    • In coordination with Lab Technicians, receive and validate chain of custody and sample login of laboratory industrial hygiene/forensic samples.

    • Comply with accreditation standards and maintain the strict ISO standards, including review and update to current methods and SOP's for process improvement/efficiencies.

    • In coordination with technicians, assist chemists by performing analysis within scope of their capabilities, preparing media and sample log-in.

    • Conforms to the safety and chemical hygiene plans of the laboratory and applies chemical hazard knowledge to all operations.

    • Understand and assist in IT-related laboratory systems such as LIMS/Inventory systems

    • Participate in financial decisions for the laboratory growth, vendor management for new equipment, and purchase decisions.

    • Seeks out improvement and business opportunities and brings well thought out proposals to management.

    • Serve as a resource/expert in determining and developing proper procedures to ship evidence, including hazardous (ie: batteries, food and ignitable liquids).

    • Act as a company-wide resource related to evidence collection and retention activities.

    • Orders/maintains proper shipping supplies to meet the needs of our customers.

    • Coordinates shipment of evidence that is facilitated through outside resources (i.e., freight), etc.

    • Assist in maintaining an inventory of field sampling equipment, ensuring client is educated on the use of the equipment.

    • Maintains computer records of calibration, documents chain of custody and related documents maintaining an unbroken chain for traceability.

    • Other:

    • Maintain additional roles as outlined by Laboratory accreditation (Chemical Safety Officer, LIMS Specialist, Deputy QA Manger, Deputy Technical Manager, Hazmat).

    • Willing to accept and embrace diverse tasks beyond the scope of operations management.

    Qualifications:

    • 2 + years Leadership experience preferred

    • Science background would be helpful - knowledge of chemistry or engineering strongly preferred

    • College Degree/Certification or equivalent work experience

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Time/organization management

    • Strong ability to engage employees and build an inclusive work environment

    • Knowledge or experience working in a lab strongly preferred

    • Understanding or ability to learn the laboratory systems platforms and have the ability to work with technical team to research and resolve problems

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $68,000 - $102,000
