As fire claims are often in litigation or under investigation by law enforcement, having the technical experience of handling these matters and coordinating with subrogation and defense counsel is required. The Fire Consultant position is 100% remote work from home. National travel is required 25% on a routine basis. In addition, this role requires the abilities to be highly flexible, committed & engaged, while having exceptional time management skills and proactive execution abilities to balance multiple priorities.
This position requires a high level of knowledge in the technical area of Fire Investigation as it relates to Origin and Cause Investigations. This individual must have a strong working knowledge of:
The scientific method
NFPA 921 & NFPA 1033
Proper Methodology as it relates to Fire & Explosion Investigations
Procedures to manage approved vendors.
Claims, Subrogation & General Liability procedures
Lab Analysis procedure
Litigation Management
Evidence Standards (Collection & Chain of Custody)
General Insurance Practices
Criminal & Civil Legal Processes
Additional responsibilities include :
Analyze and evaluate data
Vet and maintain approved expert vendor list
Vendor budget management
Oversee fire investigations
Attend scene and/or lab exams as necessary
Report and analyze industry and claim trends
Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy concerns and investigative findings
Strategic advisement to business partners
Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects and product development initiatives
Educate stakeholders and ensure collaboration with multiple lines of business
Effectively train, coach and develop staff to enable optimal job performance/achievement of individual goals while marketing FIU services.
Data capture as it relates to meaningful business opportunities.
Build the fire program through continued partnership with stakeholders.
Participate in industry meetings and training related to fire science and insurance
Liaise with industry peers and leaders and when necessary, interface with municipal officials in an effort to leverage information and communicate it to appropriate personnel within The Hartford.
Understand legal & regulatory environments on a National level.
Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of:

Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience investigating fires and explosions
Certification: IAAI-CFI or NAFI-CFEI required
College: Fire Science Degree or equivalent Fire Service or Law Enforcement experience
Experience investigating fire claims for insurance companies required
Demonstrates a knowledge of NFPA 921 & NFPA 1033
Demonstrates a knowledge of Fire Science and Fire Behavior
Demonstrates a knowledge of Fire Suppression & Fire Scene Incident Command
Experience with litigation strategies
Strong Communication skills: written, oral, presentation
Experience in training/instruction of staff
Demonstrate a strong focus on customer service
Computer skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote) and the utilization of the internet
Strong abilities to foster teamwork, build relationships and partner with internal & external customers
Strong court testimony skills
Demonstrates a consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span
This position will be responsible for handling fire claims in the Western United States. Ideal candidate would be located in the Western United States.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
