    Position summary

    As a Technical Product Owner, this role is accountable for defining and delivering the vision, roadmap, and value of The Hartford's 3PD data ingestion capabilities, ensuring ingestion patterns are scalable, resilient, secure, cost-efficient, and easy for data engineering teams to adopt. The role blends strong technical depth with modern product ownership, adopts enterprise standard reusable ingestion frameworks, automation, and self-service enablement rather than platform administration.

    This role can have a Hybrid. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

    Data Ingestion Architecture & Delivery

    • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and oversight for engineers building and operating 3PD data ingestion pipelines.

    • Own the end-to-end data pipelines for loading third-party source systems into the enterprise Data Lake and Data Warehouse.

    • Collaborates across Enterprise Data Services on 3PD reference architectures for batch, streaming, near-real-time, and event-driven data movement.

    • Lead 3PD ingestion framework development to support diverse source systems.

    • Partner with enterprise teams to Evaluate, prototype and adopt new ingestion technologies, features, and approaches to improve reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.

    • Ensure ingestion solutions align with enterprise data standards, governance, and security requirements.

    Reliability Engineering Partnership

    • Partner with Reliability Engineering teams to ensure ingestion pipelines meet enterprise availability, resiliency, observability and recoverability expectations.

    • Support incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement related to ingestion failures and data quality issues.

    • Establish and drive observability standards for ingestion pipelines, including freshness, latency, completeness, and error tracking, with a strong emphasis on automation and operational readiness.

    Product Ownership & Roadmap

    • Define and maintain the 3PD data ingestion roadmap aligned with business priorities and enterprise data strategy.

    • Prioritize ingestion features, enhancements, and technical debt based on business value, risk reduction, and scalability needs.

    • Own ingestion platform intake, backlog grooming, and iteration planning.

    • Experience with SAFe Agile.

    User Enablement & Experience

    • Own ingestion documentation, onboarding materials, standards, and best practices.

    • Enable self-service ingestion for data engineering teams through reusable components and clear guidance.

    • Partner with ingestion consumers to resolve data delivery, quality, and usability challenges.

    • Lead or contribute to ingestion-focused communities of practice across the enterprise.

    Partner Collaboration

    • Partner with external data providers, and internal consumers to support ingestion requirements for third-party and externally sourced data.

    • Coordinate technical onboarding, schema evolution, delivery SLAs, and data quality expectations with vendors and partners.

    • Collaborate on proofs of concept and evaluations for new ingestion-related tools, technologies, and services.

    FinOps & Operational Insight

    • Provide visibility into ingestion workload usage, throughput, performance, and cost drivers.

    • Identify and recommend optimization opportunities to improve ingestion efficiency while maintaining SLAs and data freshness.

    • Partner with engineering and vendor teams to implement cost and performance improvements across ingestion workloads.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 5-7 years of engineering experience with modern data platforms.

    • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating large-scale data ingestion pipelines.

    • Strong understanding of batch and streaming ingestion patterns, data movement, and data lifecycle management.

    • Experience with cloud-based data ingestion architectures and distributed systems.

    • Strong understanding of security, resiliency, DevOps, observability, and automation as applied to data ingestion.

    • Experience supporting analytics and AI workloads through reliable, high-quality data ingestion.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage a roadmap, prioritize work, and collaborate with engineering teams.

    • Ability to communicate and influence across technical and business teams.

    • Strategic thinker with the ability to simplify complex ingestion concepts.

    Preferred

    • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google,), Snowflake, APIs, infrastructure as code (Terraform) and DevOps tooling (GitHub).

    • Exposure to regulated industry environments (insurance, financial services).

    • Experience ingesting third-party, vendor-provided, and externally sourced data at scale.

    Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
    $125,760 - $188,640
