    Position summary

    s next-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) through system and software development, simulation, and validation. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the IVS Department's mission to research, develop, and implement innovative technologies that enhance safety, performance, and customer experience.

    What you'll be doing
    As a Design Engineer in our ADS area, you'll be part of a dynamic team bringing cutting-edge automotive technologies to life. You'll collaborate across global teams, drive prototypes, and develop software that powers the future of driving.

    • Develop system and software architecture for new ADAS features using data-driven proposals and algorithm implementations

    • Build software using iterative design processes with C/C++, Python, Go, and Rust

    • Create simulation environments for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HILS) and Software-in-the-Loop (SILS) testing

    • Drive prototype vehicles in simulated, closed-track, and public road environments (driver certification required)

    • Develop integrated software testing pipelines using modern tools and processes

    • Facilitate daily communication with Japanese counterparts to align global activities

    • Analyze data using automated quantitative methods and visualize KPIs for decision-making

    • Identify North American technology, market, and social trends to assess customer ADAS needs

    • Summarize data into clear, visual reports for technical storytelling

    • Collaborate with internal teams to support production design and evaluation of future ADS features

    • Form partnerships across divisions to improve software engineering practices

    What You Bring
    We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is excited to work on transformative technologies.

    • Bachelor's degree in software, computer, robotics engineering, or a related STEM field

    • 3+ years of experience developing and testing ADAS features

    • 3+ years of programming experience in C/C++ and Python

    • 3+ years of experience with sensors, ECUs, and application software for vehicle or simulation testing (HILS/SILS)

    • 3+ years of experience in unit/system testing and embedded software validation

    • 3+ years of experience with CAN tools and troubleshooting

    • 3+ years of experience creating specifications using agile or waterfall development processes

    • Experience leading or collaborating on small/mid-scale software or control systems from concept to production

    • 3+ years of experience in computer vision, machine learning, or AI implementation

    • Exposure to ISO 26262 functional safety concepts (e.g., HARA, FSR, TSR)

    • Familiarity with system development quality tools (e.g., FMEA, DRBFM, FTA)

    • Strong visual presentation skills for international audiences

    • Excellent time management and prioritization skills

    • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record

    • Willingness to work overtime (up to 20%)

    • Willingness to work hybrid (3-4 days/week in-person)

    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%)

    Added Bonus If You Have

    • Master's degree (or higher) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

    • Industry experience with Rust or Go programming languages

    • Experience managing large datasets (10TB+) and reducing outputs for efficient analysis

    • Experience designing products in automotive engineering or robotics

    • General knowledge of vehicle control systems (propulsion, braking, steering)

    • Experience realizing real-time control solutions for robotics or automated systems

    • Experience developing or evaluating ADS/ADAS technologies (e.g., mapping, localization, path planning, control)

    • Experience with camera, radar, lidar, or sonar technologies

    • Experience collecting and analyzing data from simulations or test vehicles
