    Position summary

    chi Ohno created to carry out his vision of the world-renowned Toyota Production System (TPS).

    There are many opportunities to work jointly with the North American Manufacturing Centers (NAMCs) and suppliers because the kaizen cycle is endless! This role interfaces with top executives at Toyota and project companies in pursuit of a common goal: being better than we were yesterday.     The primary responsibility of this role is to work side-by-side with project teams, both internally and externally, to develop their shop floor & TPS capabilities, while simultaneously strengthening your own TPS skills. You will actively practice Genchi Genbutsu (Go-and-See), identify gaps for improvement, and lead the activity to meet challenging targets. As your TPS toolbox grows, you will develop logical strategies, meet tight project schedules, and produce results, all while adhering to the basic principles of TPS.

    As a TPS Engineer, you can expect to support company objectives to reduce cost and lead time, specifically by detecting and eliminating waste. This supports our Customer First mentality. You will find productivity improvements throughout the entire supply chain while energetically learning and applying TPS basic-thinking and tools. Doing so, you will visualize problems, exercise practical problem-solving, and engage in the kaizen cycle, all in an effort to expand our capability and promote the transfer of knowledge to Toyota's affiliate and project companies across North America.

    What you'll be doing

    • Analyze the shop floor through Genchi Genbutsu (Go-and-See)

    • Learn and use TPS tools to visualize waste.

    • Set challenging targets that align with North American cost competitiveness.

    • Lead activity teams to success by example.

    • Develop strategies while coordinating, participating in, and eventually leading Jishuken (kaizen) activities

    • Carry-out project assignments to achieve targets

    • Develop TPS basic thinking and transferring to project teams, participants, etc.

    • Utilize activity reflection summaries as development opportunities to share TPS with others.

    What you bring

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field

    • Experience working in a direct or support role for manufacturing, including applicable co-op / internship experience

    • Experience with or exposure to continuous improvement initiatives such as TPS or similar in a manufacturing, production or logistics environment

    • Ability and willingness to travel 75%

    Added bonus if you have

    • Experience utilizing standardized work to improve processes

    • Experience utilizing Material and Information Flow Chart (Value Stream Mapping)

    • Direct shop floor manufacturing or production experience

    • Automotive manufacturing experience
