The Technical Director will lead a team of global professionals to achieve operational excellence, ensuring the availability, scalability, and security of critical IT systems while enabling business priorities. A strong emphasis will be on automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), monitoring, and process optimization to deliver best-in-class services. This is a critical leadership position, combining strategic oversight with hands-on technical problem-solving.
PRIMARY DUTIES - Technical Director, IT Compute & Storage
Takes personal ownership of managing compute, storage, and backup infrastructure 24x7 with a high degree of operational excellence.
Ensures Linux, Windows, storage, and backup environments are professionally managed and meet required service levels.
Develops, prepares, and recommends budget for server platforms, enterprise storage, and backup technologies (on-prem and cloud).
Partners with IT Risk Management to ensure compliance, security, and that disaster recovery and backup programs (Commvault) are in place and effective.
Partners with IT Architecture to design and implement appropriate compute and storage solutions that meet business needs and enable new capabilities.
Manages large-scale compute & storage infrastructure projects to deliver on time, on budget, and in scope.
Defines and tracks KPIs, SLAs, and dashboards for system availability, capacity, and performance using tools like Grafana and Prometheus.
Develops and executes strategies to modernize compute & storage infrastructure through automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible), and DevOps pipelines (GitHub).
Selects and manages storage/backup vendors and service providers for maximum benefit to the company.
Collaborates with business stakeholders to ensure compute & storage services align with business priorities.
Maintains up-to-date documentation of compute, storage, and backup environments.
Provides excellent leadership to global compute & storage teams, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and career development.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 12-15 years of IT infrastructure experience, with at least 5+ years in leadership roles managing compute, storage, and backup environments.
Hands-on technical expertise in Linux, Windows, enterprise storage (SAN/NAS/Cloud), and Commvault backup administration.
Proven experience in hybrid cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) infrastructure.
Strong background in automation and observability (Terraform, Ansible, GitHub pipelines, Grafana, Prometheus & Zabbix).
Experience with virtualization and hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V& Nutanix) and high-availability platforms.
Knowledge of ITSM processes (Incident, Problem, Change) with exposure to tools like ServiceNow.
Strong vendor management and budgeting/financial planning skills / exposure.
Demonstrated ability to lead and build high-performance technical teams across geographies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Broad and deep technical knowledge of compute, storage, and backup platforms.
Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure, containers (Docker/Kubernetes) a plus.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex IT environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to senior leadership.
Ability to balance hands-on technical depth with strategic leadership.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across functions and regions.
Demonstrated track record of driving modernization and operational excellence in IT infrastructure.
