Development Engineer, you'll contribute to building and scaling the features that power Follow Up Boss' core communications platform. While this role leans primarily toward backend development in PHP, you'll also work with React to deliver customer-facing features and ensure seamless, end-to-end functionality.
You'll work closely with teammates across web, mobile, and backend, collaborating with product managers and designers to build robust and user-friendly solutions that scale with the needs of top-performing real estate businesses.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and maintain backend services in PHP to support calling, messaging, and emailing features.
Implement and enhance customer-facing experiences using React.
Collaborate with mobile engineers, designers, and PMs to ensure consistency across platforms.
Contribute to modernization efforts, adopting new frameworks, patterns, and best practices for reliability and scalability.
Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and data integrity challenges.
Write clean, maintainable code with strong test coverage.
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

Who you are
You're an engineer who enjoys working across the stack, with a strong foundation in backend systems and enough frontend expertise to create polished experiences. You care deeply about code quality, scalability, and usability, and you're eager to collaborate in a cross-functional environment where communication is key.
Qualifications:
Proficiency with PHP 8 and experience building scalable backend services.
Comfort with modern JavaScript and experience developing with React.
Strong understanding of relational databases, caching, and API design.
Experience with frontend routing, state management, and real-time features (e.g., websockets).
Experience with testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex systems.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional team environment.
Experience with Twilio, SendGrid, and email protocols such as IMAP/SMTP are a bonus. - nice to have
