Welcome to I Love My Job, the series where we hear from women who really love their jobs. In this edition, we sat down with Carolina Cavalcante, the President for Tilcon Connecticut, a CRH Company.
“CRH is the largest building materials company in the world,” Cavalcante shares. “We provide solutions that build, connect, and improve our world every day.” This includes everything from aggregates, asphalt, and cement to pavers, blocks, and lawn and garden materials.
Cavalcante notes that her 16 years with CRH have been “a great journey” during which she’s experienced a variety of roles, including being a strategic business analyst, market analyst, and business intelligence manager. CRH also empowered Cavalcante to get her MBA and even enabled her to go to Europe to expand her skill set by working with CRH’s Europe Materials division.
Throughout her journey, Cavalcante has appreciated the opportunity to not only make a positive impact on her coworkers’ daily lives, but also on the communities around them. “We're connecting people,” Cavalcante says. “We're building the roads we drive on, the materials that go into the buildings we work on, the schools we learn at, and the homes we live in. We’re really making an impact on society and peoples’ day-to-day lives — it’s very gratifying.”

I would describe the culture of CRH as a culture that thrives around people. We are humble, down-to-Earth leaders who act with integrity and put safety first. And we accomplish all of that while still having a really high focus on performance and delivering high-quality work. At the end of the day, our values guide us, which gives a good glimpse of our culture. Our values and people are a priority, characters are strength, performance is our commitment, and innovation is our way forward.
The people… We're extremely passionate employees. We are really proud of the work we do, the industry we work in, and the impact we have on the community.
The second thing I really love about CRH is that it is a global company that gives you opportunity throughout the organization. Personally, I started in Atlanta, had a role in Europe for some time, and then I was able to come back to the U.S. and work in different states. So, the opportunities of growth and development are really endless.
CRH has really been behind me for 16 years. I started my career as an analyst, and I had their support to pursue my MBA. Later, they supported me in balancing married life. I was given flexibility when I had to move for my husband's job… I've always had people behind me who are encouraging me to take on a new challenge or a new role.
When I was transitioning into my current role, I really felt like I was set up for success. CRH ensured that I had an overlap with the previous president, and they also provided me with transition coaches and mentors to really help me be successful. They've always been behind me and have pushed me to grow and achieve things that are really beyond my imagination.
Don’t be discouraged that this is a male-dominated industry… It's a fascinating and rewarding industry, and we have amazing women and men who work here and will help you succeed. We’re expanding and growing right now at CRH. We have very favorable market conditions, it's a very exciting time to join CRH, and there are many opportunities for growth.
