Hi Darla, My current title is Invoicing and Billing Manager. My new title would be packer, as in order packer. It’s not really a lateral move, and they are letting me keep my salary, but that’s it. I’ve been with my company for about 4 years. I thought I was close to getting what I wanted and was having earnest and productive conversations with HR about where I wanted my career to go. And now this feels like 15 giant steps in the wrong direction.

I was told I start on Monday. No real choice to say yes or no. All things considered, I am hesitant to go to HR as this whole thing has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I understand. But if it was me, I would still go to HR and ask why you are being demoted after asking for a position in Design? Restate you have been a loyal employee for 4 years and have done nothing wrong and would like to know why? And do it before you start the new position.
