It’s unfortunate that you had such a horrible experience interviewing. It probably worked out for the better as you wouldn’t want to be in a company that’s not responsive or wasting your time. As a hiring manager who knows several other hiring managers across my company and other companies we normally do not have an internal candidate in mind. We are all fully open to internal and external candidates hoping that external candidates bring in a fresh perspective and experience. I would recommend, and do this myself when interviewing, tailor your resume to the position. Tailor your cover letter to the position. Ask questions and emphasize in your answers elements that are key to the department, division or company. I do spend a lot of time preparing for and interview. Sharing the same example for a ‘standard interview question’ is not advised. Think about what the interviewer will want to hear.

Yeah. I do that and have not seen any success. I’ve done everything everyone and their mother has suggested and it’s gotten me nowhere except closer to ending my life.
