    Unfairness in shift scheduling.....some workers have most morning/day shifts, so can be home for family dinners, while others have most evening shifts and get to bring a sandwich for their dinner and get home in late evening after their family in bed already.

As a government agency, this is a great place to work if you're looking for work/life balance. The leave and medical benefits are very good. As a working mom, I'm able to balance working 40 hours a week and taking time off when I need or want to.

The company works hard to create a fair, ethically sound environment. Unfortunately many of the high-level management are still part of the "boys club" so it can be very difficult to advance very far as a woman. Discussions about work/life balance are just beginning to happen, so it is yet to be seen if that will be just the latest buzz words, or if more flexible working time will come to fruition. The maternity leave was fairly easy to navigate through using the short term disability network. There are good networking opportunities as well, but again, the type of industry that manufacturing is, women are still having to work very hard to be considered "equal" with the men.

I've been with the company for a little over 5 years. Generally I enjoy working here, the salary is very good for the area I live in. However I recently found out that the department I work in has hired males and females at different starting salaries a few years ago (men have higher salaries than their counterpart women with same education, background, age and experience). For the most part (salary excluded) I believe women are treated fairly but management is male-dominated and not diverse, which makes it tougher for women to "network" with them. Most of the few females that are in leadership roles are there based on connections they have (family members in higher positions) and not based on merit or leadership skills. Others are clearly put in leadership roles because they are easily manipulated by the higher management and fail to have a strong personality that protects the interests of their own team.
