"They are still convinced that they need to be face to face, except that they went from an office where everyone had an office with a working door to an office with a mix of cubes and offices with next to no audio privacy, and senior leadership does not understand that this enforces a hierarchy and makes it very hard to concentrate in the office for things that include deep work.
They have dragged their heels HARD on expanding work from home capability, even though their staff has been almost 100% remote since March 2020 (and there was no work from home possibility at all until 2016, at which point it was one day per pay period if you had been there more than a year -- this has improved since, but they are well behind the curve). They claim this is because of some kind of tax thing, but when pressed they are not forthcoming with reasons beyond "I don't want to deal with it.""
