"Very flexible working environment at level 4 and above. Workforce is majority female, but especially at higher levels the men tend to be treated as superstars and the highest levels of leadership are dominated by white men. "

"There is a huge mismatch between the assignment of responsibility and authority. As a senior person, one is expected to bring in large contracts (worth hundreds of thousands of dollars at least) largely working on one's own time while producing high-quality research products during one's "day job" with little to no control over staffing and other resources. Even at a senior position it is next to impossible to be heard or to effect change. There is tremendous pressure, little support, and consequently a great deal of turnover."

"I left this company 7 years ago because I was interested in pursuing a different field. I cannot count the number of times during those 7 years that I have said, "Well, at my old company..." to counter the notion that cultural problems in the workplace can't be fixed. AIR wasn't the perfect fit for me subject-wise, but it had a culture that I hope to find again."
